Bruce also pointed to other fruits that possess similar properties such as kiwi, which helps boost levels of serotonin in the brain, a calming hormone that contributes to relaxation, along with pineapple with a percentage of melatonin, a key hormone for regulating the sleep and wake cycle.

Useful snacks before bedtime

Dr. Bruce recommended eating yogurt as a useful snack before bed, because it contains calcium, which is an important element to stimulate sleep. He explained that Greek yogurt can be a good source of calcium that many suffer from, which in turn contributes to improved sleep quality.

Magnesium and its role in sleep improvement

Magnesium is an essential nutrient for relaxation and sleep, with a medium-sized banana grain containing about 34 mg of magnesium, equivalent to about 8% of the required daily value. According to research, magnesium can help regulate the body’s biological clock and enhance melatonin production, as well as reduce cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, contributing to quiet and comfortable sleep.
